January: Local artist Hwang Mei-lien launches her
children's book "Mimi and the Six Alarm clocks." Ms. Hwang offered her
artwork from the book for sale to benefit the Garden of Hope
Foundation. |

February:
Taiwan is shocked by a high-profile case involving the abuse and death
of a small girl. The Garden of Hope urges the public to report
suspected cases of abuse by calling the government's emergency hotline
"113". |

March:
The Garden of Hope wins first place in the Changemakers Innovation
Awards.

The win celebrated the GOH's work on social mobilization,
especially during the 1990s, which gained support for Taiwan's anti
child-prostitution law. Pictured above is a large-scale "jog" in

April:
The GOH co-sponsors Taipei's first production of "The Vagina
Monologues," by Eve Ensler. The two
performances (in Chinese and English) received rave reviews.

May:
The annual U.S. State Department report on human rights notes that issues such as violence against women
in Taiwan "remained a
serious problem."
Meanwhile, support from our friends at the Australian and New Zealand
Social Group and Chamber of Commerce helps the GOH to continue its work.

June: Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian meets with clients from
the Garden of Hope in a closed-door event. The president heard
firsthand the problems faced by women living with family violence. He
promised to promote more help for women and
children. |

July: A special gift from the Carlton Lions Club in Melbourne,
Australia, sponsored a new project for the GOH. The education project
was designed to assist some 200 families in a remote village in
southeast Taiwan. A full report on the project will be available in
the new year. |

August: More support from the foreign community in Taiwan ¡X
this time from the Canadian Society in Taiwan's Dragon Boat Team. |
September: The GOH was honored by a visit from several VIPs
from Malawi. The distinguished guests included Malawi Ambassador
to Taiwan, His Excellency Ambassador Thengo Maloya, Malawi Health
Minister the Honorable Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba and Mrs. Ntaba, and from
the Garden of Hope Foundation, Ms. Robyn Taylor, Deputy CEO Mr. Wang,
board member Mr. Daniel Chen, and special assistant to the CEO Ms.
Lisa Pai.

October: The GOH was honored to be nominated among the
finalists for the 2005 Kellogg's Child Development Award, organized by
the U.S.-based World of Children group. The award, considered the
"Nobel Prize" of development work is awarded annually to workers in
the area of child welfare. |

November:
The GOH hosts a regional conference of some 300 experts, scholars, and
government officials, to discuss the problems of human trafficking
through Taiwan. Guests included Taiwan Vice President Annette Lu, who
delivered the keynote speech. The three days of talks led to
substantive discussion on the issues, as well as increasing dialogue
and networks among Taiwan and regional NGOs. |

December: The CEO of the GOH, Ms. Hui-jung Chi, is honored to
accept first prize at the World of Children Awards on behalf of the
work of the Garden of Hope Foundation. The award carries a cash prize
of US$100,000, which will be used for future GOH programs. |
