The Taiwan premiere of Eve
Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" received rave reviews following its
two performances at the Red House Theater in Hsimenting. Both the
Chinese and English performances played to a packed house, with
demand for tickets far surpassing availability.

"Their tone and movements and
their face really expressed who they are. It was very natural - I
felt like they [the actors] were talking about things that really
happened to them," said one audience member.

"It was really funny," said
another fan. "They could talk about things that people don't usually
talk about. But, they looked as though they were thrilled to be up
there on stage and really happy with the characters they were
playing," he said.

The organizers also named four
local "Vagina Warriors" before the start of performances on both
nights. The Vagina Warrior award honors local women and men working
to end violence against women and girls. The award winners were: Ms.
Li-feng Lee from ECPAT Taiwan; Ms. Kris Carlson from the Community
Services Center, Taipei; a posthumous award for women's rights
activist Ms. Wan-ru Peng; and the Garden of Hope's own Ms. Sen Liu
(see below).
