Stranger Safety
¡@
¡@
Some strangers can help
us, like police officers (in uniform) or people in the store. But, you
should always be careful around strangers. Remember these rules around
people you don¡¦t know very well:
-
Don¡¦t go close. Keep
an arm¡¦s reach away. That means as far as the grown-up¡¦s arm plus one
step. If the person comes nearer, keep backing away.
-
If someone comes to
your house or calls on the telephone, don¡¦t tell them if you are home by yourself. Just
say your mom or dad is busy and will call back if the person
leaves a message.
-
Don¡¦t talk to a
stranger even if they know your name, or ask you a question or ask for
your help. Don¡¦t take anything from the person even if it belongs to
your family.
-
Don¡¦t go anywhere with
the person. Don¡¦t believe the person just because they say mom or dad
sent them. Always call your mom or dad to check it out first.
-
Wherever you are, if
you feel that something is wrong, then walk backwards a few steps, turn and
run.
-
Ask for help or do anything to get attention. Other adults might help
you, but they won¡¦t know anything is wrong unless you ask for help.
-
Shout for help
if you need to or do anything else - make a phone call, knock on a window,
or even throw
something.
-
If it is safe to stop and
use a telephone, you can call the emergency help line "113".
