Unwed Pregnancy

We provide counseling, advice and a half-way house for pregnant girls and women. We offer a safe, supportive environment for unwed mothers to consider their future and prepare for the arrival of their child.

Prevention

We want to help prevent unplanned pregnancies especially among teenage girls. Girls need accurate information on safe sex before they are sexually active.

Pregnancy

Get the facts about sex and pregnancy:

• You can get pregnant the first time you have sex.

• You can get pregnant whether or not you have an orgasm.

• You can get pregnant no matter how you are standing or laying during intercourse.

• You can get pregnant regardless or whether or not you wash your vagina after sex.

• You can still get pregnant even if the man uses a condom, but especially if it breaks during intercourse.

What are the choices if I am pregnant?

Raising a child is difficult even with two parents. It is physically, emotionally and financially demanding. If it is only the mother caring for the child, it will be very difficult for her to continue her education or get a good job because babies take up a lot of time and energy.

A young couple might decide to marry because the girl is pregnant, or their families might force them to marry. Unfortunately, this is rarely a happy union. Forcing a boy to get married will not make him a good father. It will not mean you will have a happy family life.

Putting the child up for adoption is a very difficult decision, even if there are adoptive parents who can give the child a good life. Mothers who have done this say that they did it to give their child a better life, but it is still a painful decision, that they will always carry.

Having an abortion is also a difficult decision. It is a drastic step. The law requires a girl to get a guardian's signature before she can have an abortion. There are some illegal abortionists, but this can be very dangerous for the girl's health, perhaps even life-threatening.

Any abortion performed in secret is dangerous. It is better to solve the problem openly with help from an adult you trust.

Think about it first

If you and your boyfriend are not ready to take on the responsibility of a family, please think about it before deciding to have sex:

• Raising a child is always difficult. It is even more difficult if the mother must raise the child by herself.

• Being a single mother often means fewer life chances for the girl. She must devote so much of her time to caring for the child and often cannot gain a good education or job.

• There is always a risk of pregnancy with sex, even if you use condoms or other kinds of contraception. 

• If you do get pregnant, all the decisions are difficult regardless of your choice.
